Someday

Someday, we will count your fingers and kiss each one.
Someday, we will swaddle you in the softest blanket and hold you as long as you'll let us.
Someday, snowflakes will fall and I will hold you up and watch them melt on your sweet baby skin.
Someday, we will cross the street and you will hold tight to my hand.
Someday, it will rain and we'll laugh and jump in the puddles.
Someday, I will watch you sleep, watch you dream, and we will dream too.
Someday, you will dive into the cool, clear water of a lake.
Someday, you will walk into a deep wood.
Someday, your eyes will be filled with a joy so deep that they will shine.
Someday, you will run so fast and so far your heart will feel like fire.
Someday, you will swing high - so high, higher than you ever dared to swing.
Someday, you will hear something so sad that you will fold up with sorrow.
Someday, you will call a song to the wind, and the wind will carry your song away.
Someday, we will stand on the porch and watch your arms waving to us until we no longer can see you.
Someday, you will look at our house and wonder how something that feels so big can look so small.
Someday, you will find the one that you love like you've never loved before.
Someday, you will feel the weight of a small child against your strong back.
Someday, we will watch you brush your child's hair.
Someday, a long time from now, your hair will grow silver in the sun.
When that day comes, you will remember us.
And someday, we will remember how long we waited for you.
Until someday comes, we will wait.
